It has been confirmed that Pascal Wehrlein’s Race of Champions crash has resulted in a back injury, and that the German is thus unable to participate in the first official pre-season test in Barcelona.
Whilst Sauber have not (as of 1:30pm GMT) confirmed Wehrlein will miss the test yet, it is thought that doctors have advised rest to help heal any lingering injury.
Sauber have sought the services of Ferrari’s reserve driver, Antonio Giovinazzi, to replace Wehrlein, whilst the Mercedes young driver recovers. This agreement will also apply if Wehrlein is ruled out of the second pre season test, which starts on March 7.
We hope Pascal can get back in time for the second pre-season test!
