After his pointless season in F1 last year, Esteban Gutierrez has officially moved on, signing a contract with Techeetah to race for them, starting with the Mexico City ePrix. The Mexican will replace Ma Q drive alongside new Manor WEC driver and 2013-14 F1 rival Jean-Eric Vergne.
Gutierrez was announced to be driving at the Mexico City ePrix in January, but had not actually signed a formal contract with a team at that point. The 2012 GP2 Champion was close to joining Dragon Racing, but has instead joined Techeetah, the team which took over the Amlin Aguri entry at the start of the season.
He will compete in the final nine rounds of the electric series, and will most likely also be contesting season four of the Formula E Championship with Techeetah too.
After four years of an incredible experience in F1, I am now taking a step forward into the future of motorsports.
– Esteban Gutierrez
Hopefully he will break the curse he had in the 2016 F1 season of finishing one place outside the points. As well as this, hopefully for the sake of the series, he helps to put on a good show for his home fans by having a strong Formula E debut.
