The curse of finishing no higher than 11th is over for Esteban Gutierrez.
The Mexican managed to score a point in his first ever Formula E race, coming home 10th. He got lucky to be 10th as well, as he was running in his usual 11th until he overtook former Virgin and Lotus F1 driver Jerome d’Ambrosio with less than a lap to go, due to the Belgian running out of battery power.
This marks Gutierrez’s first official point in an FIA championship since the 2013 Japanese Grand Prix, where he scored his only F1 points.
In other news, the race itself was won by former Virgin driver Lucas Di Grassi, despite having to change his rear wing under the Safety Car after being rear-ended by German Maro Engel on the opening lap. Ex-Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne was second, with Sam Bird in third place.
